Welcome! Thanks for reading my first post! I am writing this blog because I want people to have a greater quality of life when recovering at home (which extends to family members and caregivers too). I want to equip people with practical tools that are easy to implement, and that (ideally) can be tailored to any situation.
Why you ask (or maybe you don't, but I'm going to tell you anyways...lol)? Well, for the last two-and-a-half years I have been very ill (more on that later), and have been in a hospital bed in my living-room. I've spent most of each day in that time coordinating my own rehab and finding and working on gaps in service that I never knew existed. I have needed to use my experience as a Kinesiologist, as a patient, and as caregiver in order to get the care that I need. And every time I do that, it makes me wonder how people get the care that they need to recover well at home if they are not experienced in any of those categories (or even in just one of them). Now that my health is improving, I would like to share with you what I have learned in the hope that it might be of use to you. I'd also like to share a lot of tips on how to be more comfortable and functional, and things that will help you to have to a better quality of life whether you are a caregiver or one who is recovering.
Finally, the last reason for this blog? I am looking forward to sharing some of the bizarre happenings since I've been ill. Laughter is the best medicine after all! Have you ever been in a hospital bed in your living-room at 7pm and have your physiotherapist use her body to shield you both because for some odd reason there is a bat in the house swooping over your heads repeatedly? Or a complex care hospital declare you too complex for care? No? Well, welcome to my world! Every day here seems to have a little bit of crazy - and ironically I think it is that that helps us stay sane!
Well, thanks for getting this far and reading my first post. I am so excited about this - please bare with me if I stumble a bit... I've never had a blog before!
Happy Reading!
A toolkit of strategies, creative adaptations, and (hopefully) humerous anecdotes to assist you or a loved one to recover well at home after illness or injury.
